Report of Community Development Officer to Forum for June 2007
June has seen some success and plenty of work on a number of projects & events.
The B&Q grant came through OK and we now have 8 tubs, plus compost and summer bedding plants to spread around the Ward. The 4 tubs for Caerbryn & Blaenau have been put up (thanks Robert). The 4 tubs for Penygroes should go in this week.
The grant for a survey of the woodland and pond alongside Caerbryn Rd. has been put in to Environment Wales. It has been matched by a £250 grant successfully obtained from Carmarthenshire County Council’s local Biodiversity Action Plan. Environment Wales are hopeful that it will be successful and if so, the project should be eligible for up to £10,000 to create the woodland walk. We should hear early next week.
I can’t progress a grant for new computers for Neuadd Goffa as I’m waiting for contact details for the lottery who gave the grant for the existing computers.
There should be money left in the One Fund to draw up plans for Neuadd Goffa extension. I’ve had quotes from 2 architects and Menter have registered the project. The application includes money for a community laptop projector.
The community garden has been held up by the weather. The plants are arriving 10th July. Hopefully the structure will be completed by then.
Protex’s application to run a new entrance to their development through our new garden has been lodged with the council, together with revised plans for the site – application nos. E/16741, 16742, 16743, 16744 and 16745.
The Welsh version of the website has been created and I’m in the process of getting existing information translated. You should be able to see real progress over the next few weeks.
The Community Police held their 2nd surgery in Neuadd Goffa. Julian and Mark called in to see them. It would be good if they had feedback from more residents to make sure the service continues.
I’ve done a second countryside walk – from Spien to Caerbryn Rd. It took about 11/2 hours with lots of stops for looking at the views and photos, some of which are on the website.
I’ve helped Calfaria put in 2 grant applications to replace the rendering which has been coming off in sheets.
I’ve drawn up a suggested events programme. If you want a copy, let me know. There’s a copy on the website. Events include a strawberry tea, barbeque, flower show, treasure hunts, fun day (with hot air balloon ride), twmpath, tapas & latin dance evening, Christmas fair & night-time carnival, Boxing day walk, games evenings and wine tasting event.
Any other suggestions welcome.
