Parks

Saturday October 11th 2008 was a great day for Penygroes park as it recieved a donation of £370 towards its regeneration.

The West Wales branch of the Federation of Master Builders made the donation at their annual dinner in Tenby towards the provision of play equipment suitable for disabled people.  Each year they support a particular charity and this year they choose to support the efforts of the Penygroes Park Steering Committee in their attempt to upgrade and regenerate the park.  This donation has given the committee a significant boost of moral and also financially.

During the summer, with the help of Menter Cwm Gwendraeth and Carmarthenshire County Council, committee members have been working hard putting together a grant application bid to WREN, a grant scheme linked to Pwllfawatkin Landfill Site in Cwmgorse.  If we are successful we will get £125,000 towards play equipment in the park.  Members of the Youth Club have worked with the committee to choose the equipment so fingers crossed 2009 will see lots of new equipment being errected in the park.

Planning Permission Given after Site Visit

Protex Corporation have been given planning permission to move the entrance to the Emlyn site so that it goes through the new community garden and the library.  There are conditions attached to the permission - a new library and garden must be built first and the Gardening Club must be compensated for their financial loss.  The Forum have today (9th October) handed in a petition to Carmarthenshire County Council asking them not to sell the land which they promised to the community for 15 years so that the garden could be built.  It is very difficult to persuade people to do anything for their community if the result of their hard work is not respected.

The planning application for 3-story houses and appartments on Gorsddu Rd. was not approved and Protex were told to redesign the site so that there are only 2 storey houses and more parking spaces.
