April 2008

Penygroes Memorial Hall (Neuadd Goffa) has received planning permission for an extension to provide additional storage space and meeting room / changing room.  The Hall Committee will now be applying for grants to have the extension built.  There will be a petition circulating shortly asking for community support so that the grants can be secured.

Cafaria Baptist Church has been successful in it’s application for a £11,000 grant from WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd.) towards rewiring the chapel and re-rendering the outside of the building.  This is on top of the £3,000 obtained from the Welsh Church Fund last year.  Many thanks to those who petitioned for community support which made this possible.  The church looks forward to being able to continue offering a community venue for the forseeable future.

The vestry is available at £10 per morning / afternoon / evening session.  To book, contact Marian at Penygroes Post Office or phone her on 01269 842422.

As you are probably aware, Phil Owen finished in the post of Community Development Officer on the 31st March 2008.

I would like to thank him for the effort he has made (above and beyond what was required of him) during the year he was in this position.

Phil has not had an easy task because it is almost impossible to please everyone.  I believe he has done a great deal for the improvement of the three villages and his work with the Protex development has been appreciated.

I also hope this past year has helped restore the community’s faith in this position which we have now have to continue without.  A great many achievements have been made but there are others still to complete.  We must all try to maintain the momentum that has pushed our village to the forefront during the last year.

I wish Phil good luck in his future role.
