There was an awards ceremony at the Stradey Park Hotel last night to celebrate the best of the projects awarded a grant under Carmarthen County Council’s “One Fund”.
The 226 projects were assessed by an independant panel under 6 categories & Penygroes Community Garden were the “Environmental Enhancement” winners. The Gardening Club won a certificate, an engraved glass plaque and a £500 cheque.
The awards were based on the criteria of sustainability and community involvement.
This is a tremendous boost to the volunteers from Penygroes Gardening Club who spent many hours over a 2-year period planning, designing, funding, supervising and planting the garden.

There has been another spate of fly tipping in Penygroes Woods. It’s a shame that the enjoyment of many people can be spoiled by a few selfish individuals. With a little bit of effort, Penygroes Woods can be a lovely place to walk - and so close to the village. Hopefully, the people concerned will be brought to task & made to clear their rubbish.

Here’s a few pictures of the 1st people to use the community garden back in August - to bring back a few memories of last Summer.
Sarah and her son & daughter from Penygroes Primary School were the first family to use the garden.

Lynnette also spotted Buddug & ** from her window overlooking the garden.

On Saturday evening, Fat Barry’s Soul Band were brilliant in Penygroes Rugby Club. There were lots of people there to enjoy the music and Llinos tells us that even John got up to dance. Thanks to all who came out to support us & made it such a great evening.

Volunteers got together on Friday morning to improve the drainage of one of the paths in Penygroes woods. Stone spread before the Boxing Day walk had washed down into a gully. This was dug out and a pipe put in. a drainage pipe was then laid in stone along the side of the path. Future work will include drains across the path to keep it drier underfoot.
Many thanks to Mark, Ifor and John who worked really hard on a difficult stretch of path.
