Matters Arising

There were no matters arising.

Development Officer’s Report

Phil Owen reported on a very positive four weeks.  He has established an office in the computer room in the community hall.  There is a bell that can be used if the door is locked and a sign up when Phil is in the office.  A phone line will be installed and a broadband line.  Phil has also set up an online diary so that people can check his movements and he is also in the process of setting up a diary of community venues and the events held in each venue. He has also;

•    applied for funding from B&Q for flower tubs in the 3 villages.
•    assisting the Apostolic Church seek funding to publish a recipe book,
•    helping a social business find new premises to allow them to expand,
•    supporting developments in the park
•    helping the pensioner group apply for funding
•    investigating the possibility of building and funding an extension to Penygroes hall
•    investigating the development of a drop-in internet facility, possibly in the old Lloyds Bank building on the square.

Online Notice-Board

Mark Waygood has developed an online notice-board instead of a paper newsletter.  It is designed to be fully interactive.  Anyone who has registered will be able to add information about events, photographs etc. onto the site.  Copies of all minutes from 2006 have been loaded to the site and there is a forthcoming events section.  Other items include the Community Development Officer’s job description.Once the site is fully set up a Welsh version will be launched.  The cost of keeping it running is £180 per year.

The web address is www.crosshandslife.co.uk/penygroescommunitynews/
This site also gives access to the Development Officer’s diary and the community venue calendar.

Penygroes Park Consultation Day

A very successful consultation event was held on the proposed developments in the park.  200 people had responded.  Menter Cwm Gwendraeth are currently collating the responses and preparing a report of the findings.  An open meeting will be held to announce the findings.

Gardening Club Trip

The Gardening Club went on a trip to the Malvern Show on Saturday.  We were a little worried when Jane (the Sat. Nav.) took us to a very nice house near Malvern - but nowhere near the show ground. Len stepped in & got us there only 1/2 hour late. Jane got the sack for the trip back. Len made a much better job of it.

The show was huge. We were there until nearly 6pm. I don’t think anyone saw all there was to see. The show gardens were really impressive. There were all kinds of gardening tools and gadgets. The exhibits and things for sale in the craft and food tents were good.
We stopped at a nice pub on the way back for some food.
I could go on about it for ages. Here are a few photos.
